This Mantinicus-style peapod built by students of the Apprentice Shop in Maine was brought to us suffering from years of neglect. Her keel and garboards had separated, planks had dried and split, her stem heads were rotten from sitting bottom side up in the sun, and her rails were covered with a canvas guard held in place with hundreds of copper ring nails. While a perfect candidate for a thorough rebuild, the economics of such an endeavor were out of the question. Faced with budgetary constraints, a savvy approach to solving each issue was adopted giving our customer a sound vessel for the foreseeable future.
